Simplified, a vertebral subluxation is when one or more bones of your spine (the vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate the spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are nerves that come out from between each spinal bone. The pressure or irritation on the nerves can cause those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves.
How can this affect your body? Well your nervous system controls and coordinates all functions of your body. If you interfere with signals traveling to your nerves, parts of your body will not receive the proper message it needs to work properly and function at 100%. It is the responsibility of a Doctor of chiropractic to locate these subluxations and reduce or correct them. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to correct the subluxations in your spine.
